![]() ![]() Dalai Lama to visit Belgium in May CONTACT: Tel: +33-1-46-56-54-53 Fax: +33-1-46-56-08-18 Bureau du Tibet, Paris Programs include buddhist teaching, public talk, inauguration of Nobel Space and exchange with youth from Flemish and French communities His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been invited to Belgium to confer a Buddhist teaching and a public talk by the Tibetan Buddhist center, Yeuntin Ling Institute of Huy, Belgium. The teaching titled πLife, Death and Birth in BuddhismΣ will be given at the Omni Sport in the City of Huy on Wednesday, May 5, 1999. The morning session runs from 10:30 to 12:30 and the afternoon session from 15:00 to 17:00. At 19:00 on May 6, 1999, His Holiness will give a public talk on the subject πEthics for the Next MilleniumΣ at Palais 5 in the Heysel in Brussels. These two programs are open to the public and tickets can be obtained through FNAC ticket outlets in Belgium and France. As part of the annual Nobel Day events surrounding May 8, Senator-Mayor Madame Anne-Marie Lizin has requested His Holiness to inaugurate and unveil the first stone for the new Nobel Space of the City of Huy. The Nobel Space is to be established at the Fort of Huy which has played a central role in the birth and development of the city. The Fort also holds special significance during the World Wars I and II and is the lasting remaining symbol of the resistance of the French community in Belgium against the repression of Nazi Germany. On May 6th, His Holiness will address the youth from both the Flemish and French communities of Belgium. Madame Laurette Onkelinx, Minister-President of the Government of the French Community will welcome His Holiness to a gathering of over 3,000 students to a conference titled πPeace in Respect of ManΣ in Huy.
In Antwerp, His Holiness will meet with 1,000 student ambassadors selected to participate in this meeting as part of π1999 V-Day ProjectΣ. This event is hosted by Mr. Eddy Baldewijns, Minister for Education of the Government of the Flemish Community in cooperation with the V-Day Peace Project and the Peace Center of the Town of Antwerp. This exchange will take place in English and be broadcast live on the internet on May 6, from 16:00-17:00 (local time in Belgium).
